New rapid chargers for electric vehicles are now available in three car parks across Hart, allowing visitors to quickly charge their vehicles whilst out and about.
Two rapid charge bays have been installed in Crossways Manor car park in Hook and The Bury in Odiham. A further eight rapid charging bays are available in the Victoria Road car park, Fleet.
Electric vehicle charging points are now in place in five of the car parks run by Hart District Council. The Council has plans to roll these out to more of their car parks across the district before the end of 2024.
Councillor Richard Quarterman, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Corporate Services, said: “More and more vehicle users are making the switch to electric each month. We want to help with this transition by making it quick and easy to charge wherever you are in Hart.
“We’re dedicated to helping everyone take local action to tackle global climate change and are pleased to support those making this positive step in our journey towards a carbon-neutral district.”
Hart District Council have worked with charge point operator Mer to install the bays in these latest three car parks. After declaring a climate emergency in 2021, this project is part of the Council’s work to tackle climate change and become a carbon-neutral authority by 2035 and district by 2040.
Alex Hinchcliffe, Managing Director at Mer UK, said: “Public sector bodies are playing an important role in facilitating the EV transition. We are delighted to be working with Hart District Council to help them further their sustainable transport strategy by installing effortless, future-fit EV charging for the Hart community.”
